In partnership with Slow Food in the Philippines, Marco Polo Ortigas Manila links good food with local communities in order to preserve local food culture and tradition

The Slow Food Movement promotes local food and traditional cooking, which, along the way, supports local farmers and fisher folks. The movement, practiced in over 100 countries, envisions a world where everyone can access and enjoy food that is good for them and good for those who grow and harvest them.

Supporting this philosophy, Marco Polo Ortigas Manila collaborates with Slow Food in the Philippines to bring Locally Green: Reviving Traditions, Rediscovering Good Food, a campaign that aims to offer a delectable line-up of dishes at Cucina—the hotel’s signature all-day restaurant—that are sourced and prepared according to the principles of the movement.

“We believe in Slow Food’s thrust of preventing the disappearance of local food cultures and traditions, counteract fast food, and combat people’s dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from, and how their food choices affect the world,” says Stuart Stancombe, Marco Polo Ortigas Manila’s Director of Restaurants, Bars, and Events.

Locally Green: Reviving Traditions, Rediscovering Good Food kicks off at Cucina with the Pampanga edition and will soon serve other provincial and regional specialities. The campiagn is a new and ingenious way to learn about mindful consumption because food choices affect not just the members of the family but also the community and country as well.

“The food in our country is as diverse as our islands. Sadly, not a lot of people are aware that some local ingredients are endangered. We are slowly losing our traditions. The farmers will not produce them if there is no interest. We want our children to enjoy them, too. We are grateful for Marco Polo Ortigas Manila’s support in our advocacy,” shares Paula Aberasturi, Community Leader of Slow Food Manila.
