Marco Polo Plaza rolled out the red carpet for Cebu’s lovers of fine dining last March 16 as Chaine des Rotisseurs Bailliage Cebu had their 24th Induction and Gala Dinner.

For the hotel’s 5th time to host one of the country’s grandest dining event, the theme was L’Art de Vie or The Art of Living. Modern art installations welcomed the guests at the lobby and other works of art infused into the entire gala dinner awaited the members of this international gastronomic society.

New members were inducted and some existing members were recognized for their milestones in the organization at the Manila Room before the dinner. This was led by the Chaine des Rotisseurs Bailliage de Cebu Board of Directors Señorito Michel Lhuiller, Señorita Amparito Lhuiller, Dr. Nestor Alonso, Mr. Jaime Picornell, Ms. Teresin Mendenoza, Dr. Vivina Chiu, Mr. Winglip Chang, and Mr. David Sharpe.

First to be served was the cold appetizer, Tasmanian ocean trout with saffron glaze, lobster terrine and scattered pearls, paired with Arnegui Rioja Viura Blanco from Spain. The second course was the soup, cream of chicken with sweet potato, truffle and celery juice. This was paired with Baron Philippe De Rothschild Cadet d’Oc Pinot Noir.

For the third course, the hot appetizer was red grouper and pasta paglia e fieno with silver beet paired with Caliterra Reserva Sauvignon Blanc. To cleanse the palette before the main course, a refreshing rhubarb and aquavit sorbet was served.

Finally it was time for the main course, rolled beef in macadamia & crépinette, lambanog sauce, congo potato and petit legume, paired with Chateau Les Cabannes Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, Bordeaux.

Each course was beautifully plated, each an artwork in itself.

Entertainment in between courses was also top notch. There were the members of the Cebu Philharmonic Orchestra, Pilipinas Got Talent Semi-Finalist Angel Fire Belly Dancers, Sand Artist Bryan Crespo who made sand art versions of Van Gogh’s The Starry Night and Leonardo Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa and Marco Polo Plaza Cebu’s very own chocolate painter, Neza Maban.

After dinner, the Marco Polo Plaza Team got recognized by the CDR Board of Directors starting with General Manager Julie Najar. They also recognized the outstanding work of RB&E Manager Joward Tongco, Executive Chef Stefano Verrillo and the rest of the banquet staff and culinary team.

With excellent food, good wine, and great company, it was indeed a night to remember.
