On October 3, 1976, forty years ago, the Metropolitan Museum of Manila (MET) opened its doors to the public for the first time. The inaugural show featured an impressive exhibition of paintings and sculptures from Europe and the US. Since then, the MET has mounted more than 400 exhibitions, showcasing the art of the Philippines and other cultures around the world, in various forms and contexts. Their 40th anniversary exhibit consists of more than 100 works by Filipino artists from the modern and contemporary period, complementary print collections of the MET and the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, and archival exhibition posters and catalogues.
