Coming out this month: Grace of Monaco, the story of an actress-turned-princess.

The fairy-tale story of actress-turned-princess Grace Kelly made it to the Cannes Film Festival this 2014 with Nicole Kidman giving life to the widely adored personality. Directed by Olivier Dahan, the American-French biopic about the life of Grace Kelly in the 1960s depicted the heroine’s marriage crisis and dispute between her husband Prince Rainier III and France’s President Charles de Gaulle.

Dahan’s Grace of Monaco attempts to give the audience a glimpse of palace life by depicting a regal Serene Princess of Monaco and at the same time shows how she was able to bring the sides together. Known to be a favourite of the film director Alfred Hitchcock, the film also recounts the time when she chose not to pursue her acting career again despite the many offers she has received and just focus on her greatest role yet—the princess of Monaco.

Prince Albert II, Princess Caroline, and Princess Stephanie—children of Grace and Prince Rainier III—have expressed criticism for the film’s subject matter and lack of accuracy. In defence of the  the film, Nicole Kidman responded, “This is not a biopic or a fictionalized documentary of Grace Kelly, but only a small part of her life where she reveals her great humanity as well as her fears and weaknesses.”

The Grace of Monaco will hit the European theatres on June 6.
