As watchmakers increasingly turn their attention to smartwatches, Alpina has risen to the challenge with a ladies' model that's sporty, stylish and smart, with various connected functions. As well as being tough and water-resistant, the Alpina wearable has a refined side, with optional diamond indexes. The "Comtesse Horological Smartwatch" has been designed with active women in mind.

Launched in 1963, the "Comtesse" ladies' watch collection, powered by automatic movements, takes a new turn more than half a century later with new smartwatch model. Always maintaining an inherent elegance, this new "Comtesse" is the very latest version of the "Horological Smartwatch," the fruit of a collaboration between Alpina and the Swiss brand MMT.

Sporty chic

Known for its sporty watches, Alpina hasn't turned its back on this signature trait with the new "Comtesse." The brand's sporty chic is channeled in the watch's 36mm fiberglass case and lugs -- available in black or white -- and stainless steel case back ensuring water-resistance. Both lightweight and shock-resistant, the watch is a suitable accessory for all kinds of sports.

The "Comtesse Horological Smartwatch" channels Swiss chic, with a simple, pared-down and refined design. However, Alpina has brought elegant details to the timepiece, like colored dials (black, white, mother of pearl) and a choice between applied luminous indexes or diamond indexes.

A day-to-day partner

As well as telling the time, this new wristwatch features the MMT AL-281 module, bringing smartwatch functionality.

The many features of the new "Horological Smartwatch" include receiving emails notifications and call notifications (via the MMT-365 smartphone app), as well as tracking steps, calories and distance covered, and monitoring sleep (duration, light and deep sleep phases).

The time and date are set automatically each time the wearer changes time zone thanks to the smartphone connection. Other smart functions include get-active alerts, a sleep cycle alarm and dynamic coaching.

The Alpina "Comtesse Horological Smartwatch" was presented at Baselworld 2017, the international watch and jewelry fair, in Basel, Switzerland, closing March 30.
