Watchmakers, brands and buyers will be heading to the Baselworld international watch and jewelry fair in the Swiss city of Basel, March 23 to 30, to check out the latest timepieces and their prestigious complications, as well as creative and innovative new design.
In recent weeks, watch brands have started presenting their new models ahead of the event, showcasing the first trends in terms of materials, complications and dimensions. Here's a look at five men's watches unveiled in the run up to Baselworld 2017:
First presented in 2013, the "Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe" returns this year in a deep blue shade, nodding to the world of diving, and a 38mm case. This model has a slight retro design, featuring a steel bezel with a blue ceramic insert and Liquidmetal indexes. The watch uses the 1150 caliber and is waterproof to around 300 meters. It has hours, minutes, seconds and date functions.
The iconic "Slim d’Hermès Quantième Perpétuel" comes in a platinum version this year, with a midnight blue dial and a 39.5mm case. The watch uses the extra-slim H1950 caliber, made in-house, with a perpetual calendar, hours and minutes, a day/night indicator, a second time zone, and a moonphase with a mother-of-pearl moon on an aventurine sky situated at three o’clock. It comes with a dark blue alligator strap.
This new "Tissot Ballade" uses a movement with a silicon balance spring for precision and longevity. It also promises an affordable price tag (€890 to €950). The watch runs on the COSC-certified automatic Powermatic 80 movement, offering an 80-hour power reserve and hours, minutes and seconds functions, plus a date window at three o’clock.
A year after unveiling the "Scafograf 300," the Swiss watchmaker returns with a GMT version. This model uses the ETA 2893-2 caliber, an automatic mechanical movement with hours, minutes, seconds, date, and triple time zone functionality, thanks to the central GMT hand and the adjustable bezel. This watch has a 43mm steel case and is available with blue or black dials, and a blue or black rubber strap. It is waterproof to 100 meters.
Watch fans can soar the skies with this Bell & Ross model, which has an industrial, pared-down and minimalist style, inspired by the world of air travel. The 42mm watch features a round dial in a square case, one of the brand’s signatures. The case is made from micro-blasted steel and the black matte dial features hands and indexes with a luminous finish. The watch is equipped with the BR-CAL.302 caliber, an automatic mechanical movement with hours, minutes, seconds and date functions. Price: €2,800
