Singaporean institution Hawker Chan brings its signature soy sauce chicken to Manila’s dining public
It’s a dish that is deceptively simple at first glance: roast chicken done the oriental way with a burnished skin outside and succulent meat within.
But, in the hands of the man who has become one of Singapore’s living culinary legends, it becomes a luscious treat that has had diners queueing up for a taste for nearly two decades. Indeed, from its humble beginnings as a hawker centre stall, Hawker Chan has become a dining destination in its own right, drawing in locals and tourists alike with its simple but delectable menu.
Now, it is no longer necessary to fly all the way to Singapore to enjoy a plate of soy chicken rice or oriental barbecued pork: Hawker Chan has finally opened a store in the Philippines. “We’ve seen how Filipinos try to visit top-rated restaurants whenever they travel, so we thought, ‘Why not bring these restaurants into the country?’”
