Your appetite goes a long way with these menus especially crafted for Best Restaurants Charity Week 2013.

The generous gastronomic affair that is the 4th Best Restaurants Charity Weekbegins! From August 16 to 24, dining at any of the 37 participating restaurants will contribute to the cause of the Down Syndrome Association of the Philippines, Inc. These restaurants will be donating a portion of their sales to the organisation in order to support parents with newborn to infant children with Down syndrome learn about the condition. The restaurants have been so enthusiastic in their part in Charity Week that they even made special menus for the nine-day charitable event. Indulge and have no guilt!


Aubergine

An abundant degustation menu awaits at the elegant restaurant Aubergine. Amuse bouche featuring pan-seared duck foie gras on celeriac in Madeira, smoked duck breast with papaya, and foie gras terrine with Calvados jelly accompanied by mesclun greens tossed in raspberry vinaigrette begins this French meal. A choice of grilled Chilean sea bass, Portwine braised veal cheek and grilled lamb chop, or grilled Australian Mulwarra beef Ribeye roll steak makes up the main course. Desserts range from cheeses, cakes, pralines to macarons with coffee or tea.

 

The menu is available at 2,350 pesos per person. For the steak option, it will 2,950 pesos while an additional cheese course will cost 200 pesos. [Editor's Note: Aubergine will be closed on August 17 for a private function.]


The Lobby

For each of the nine days during Charity Week, The Lobby features a different menu. August 16 and 24 share the same menu of shrimp and grapefruit salad, the soup of the day, roasted pork neck in Indian spices, vegetable quiche, and Napoleon or fruit salad with cinnamon rum syrup. Midweek, find a salad of rock lobster and green beans, roasted free-range chicken breast, mixed stir-fried vegetables, and leche flan or fruit salad in lemon grass syrup. On August 23 an appetizing line-up features smoked duck salad, fillet of grouper crusted with black olive tapenade, and homemade potato gnocchi. [Editor's Note: Escolta will replace the participation of Old Manila, also at The Peninsula Manila.]

The posh exterior of Oakroom has a special story behind "Charlie's Menu." The general manager Rick Erdos' son, Charlie, was born with Down syndrome. His wife Alison shares the story of her pregnancy and says, "I wish I hadn't shed so many tears or been so worried. He fills my heart with joy every single day and brings a smile to every person he meets in his travels." The love and support Charlie has grown up with are what DSAPI hopes the parents in the Philippines can give to their children with Down syndrome.

 

Join Oakroom for Charity Week and take part in its Australian fare. A three-course menu features a main course option of Charlie's tropical burger with bacon, fried egg, lettuce, whopper tomato and pineapple, fries and coleslaw, Aussie Bangers and homemade mashed potatoes; or fish and chips served with vinegar, fries, and side salad.


Shang Palace

The executive Chinese chef Richard Thong and his team will feature some Cantonese specialities at Shang Palace. For lunch, have a six-course menu consisting of dim sum, hot prawn salad, scallop and fish lips, pork ribs, and poached rice wrapped in lotus leaf. For dinner, treat yourself to a fried fish skin with chilled foie gras salad, pumpkin seafood soup, and roasted rack of lamb with hawthorne wine sauce, amongst other dishes.

 

Lunch is served at 1,388 pesos per person. Dinner is at 2,088 pesos a head.


Va Bene Pasta Deli

Besides Va Bene's fresh handmade pasta, have some of its special items on the menu. During Charity Week, indulge in an antipasti course of salami Milano served with Ricotta cheese, olives tapenade, toasted bread, and arugula leaves. For the main course, the choices are a "Peperonata Raviolini" with Crecenza cheese cream sauce or saffron fettucine served with braised quail ragout and green olives in sweet wine sauce. All the dishes are priced at 450 pesos. The Va Bene Tiramisu for dessert is good for sharing, so dine with friends and family at the authentic Italian restaurant!
