I myself have never understood non-foodies. How can one not love flavours, spices, aromas and all the cultural nuances and memories that come with every bite? Dining is an experience meant to be savoured and is even more fun when shared with loved ones. Dining around a table means sharing, conversing, bonding and learning. A dish can tell you so much about a person, a culture, and a country. It speaks volumes of a nation's history and is an art-form on its own. Skilled hands are trained over years or are born out of pure passion and practice. Professional chefs and home-cooks alike, from young stars to grandmothers, have been cooking up meals filled with emotion and have truly made us foodies, happy.

Simple flavours done, right. Pia Lichaytoo’s home-made rocky road ticks all the right boxes. Who can say no to dark chocolate, marshmallows, and walnuts? For those that favour milk chocolate, she offers a variant with rice krispies and marshmallows – reminiscent of a popular chocolate bar. Good thing that she offers them in three different sizes to satiate our cravings as they’re all highly addictive.

Crosta Pizza has been in the business for a few years now and what I love about them is they’ve taken advantage of the pandemic to indulge us in our comfort food fantasies. They launched a better version of our childhood “square” pizza, comparable to one I had in New York just before the pandemic. For your next pizza night, try the Sicilian pepperoni, or cheese and garlic confit!

Lazy Œuf is the little sister, to chef Miko Calo’s Metronome. I’ve gone through a lot of take out during this pandemic, and I must say nothing comes close to the service and ease that they offer. Be sure to try the truffle mac and cheese, the chicken cordon bleu or BBQ pork sandwich, and any of her mains. The burger with brie and foie gras, dare I say is also excellent. Miko still hasn’t heeded to my request of offering her white chocolate millefeuille to-go, so her chocolate mousse will do for now.
As a great fan of ramen, nothing still comes close to the ramen bar experience, but Ramen Ron comes close. Brought to us by the chef behind Pasay Road’s Ukkokei, together with Margarita and Amado Forés we’re sure to get the same Tantanmen and Hiyashi Goma experience, we have sorely missed in the last few years, in the comforts of our homes.
