The Japanese cheese tart craze has been set into motion.

Hailing from Hokkaido’s famous Kinotoya bakery is a cheesy handmade treat, the Bake Cheese Tart. Launched in 2014, founder Shinatro Naganuma created his version of the cheese tart which blends four types of cheeses; three from Hokkaido and the fourth is from France. This melange of cheese is then poured into a double-baked tart and then baked till a yummy crisp golden brown. “Our cheese tarts are made up of a complex layering of flavours that require an almost artistic level of detail. They may look simple but this recipe has been our best-selling product since they were introduced. That takes years of practice and attention to perfecting our recipe,” shared Naganuma. The first Bake Cheese Tart store opened at The Podium last December 22 just in time for the Christmas rush and will open it’s second store at the Powetplant Mall Rockwell this January 11.

His family business, Kinotoya, a long established French confectionery store (we are talking three decades) based out of Sapporo, Hokkaido opened its first Bake  Cheese Tart store in Shinjyuku, Tokyo in four years ago. Today, we can get our Bake fix in Hong Kong, Bangkok, Seoul, Singapore and finally, now here in Manila.

Concluded Naganuma, “We’ve come to observe that Filipinos are adventurous and crave global flavours. We believe that Filipios will like our tarts and we want to share this gift with them and the rest of the world. We fly in the best ingredients from Hokkaido and bake the tarts fresh in store so no matter whether you having our tarts in Japan, Singapore, Korea or Manila, you’ll enjoy the same delicious flavour and consistency.”

Bake Cheese Tarts are best consumed fresh within the same day of purchase ands hould you bring them home, there are three lines of attack: chilled, frozen and straight from an over toaster. For more information, check their Facebook account: bakecheesetartph and @bakecheesetart_ph on Instagram.
