Master of whisky, Ewan Gunn flew in to The Philippines from Scotland to teach us all about whisky and to share his perspective. Today, February 7, at Oto Bar, Gunn held a food and scotch whiksy tasting. He guided us through the intricacies of this beloved drink. Gunn began by saying that “people think there are a lot of rules when it comes to drinking scotch…If there is one rule about scotch, it is that scotch has no rules.” He went on to explain about the great tradition and heritage that comes with this great beverage, recounting the origin story of Johnny Walker in Scotland.

Gunn shared that master blenders in Scotland make scotch a part of their way of life. These craftsmen inject memories, stories, passion and refinement into their blends to create the many complex flavours that we taste as we drink. Interestingly enough, all scotches and whiskeys are only made form 3 ingredients: water, cereals and yeast! The rich and delicate notes we taste come from way that the talented blenders work their magic, aging and manipulating these 3 ingredients to enhance their mixture.

Gunn showed us that scotch is versatile, current, and timeless, by allowing us to try making some of the world's favourtite cocktails that are all made with scotch or whiskey.

So, how do you #LoveScotch?
