What is mushroom coffee made of?
Well, mushrooms and coffee! Although powdered mushrooms are blended with regular ground or instant coffee, the taste of coffee does tend to overpower the flavour of the mushroom. Typically the mushrooms used are reishi, chaga, lion's mane and cordyceps which are types of medicinal mushrooms that are often used in Chinese herbal medicine. Interestingly enough, mushroom coffee, apparently, isn't new in the market!
These medicinal mushrooms—not to be mistaken with hallucinogenic mushrooms—help reduce the effects of stress on the body as they are adaptogenic. The adaptogens help "increase the body’s resistance to physical, biological, and chemical stress".
