Peninsula in Pink makes another bold statement in the advocacy to fight breast cancer

The Peninsula Manila’s eye-catching grand fountain – set aglow with pink lights – on the corner avenues of Makati and Ayala mesmerised hundreds of passers-by. For six years, “Peninsula in Pink” occurred to support the cause of the Philippine Foundation for Breast Care, Inc. Hotel staff showed their support by wearing pink ribbon pins, which were also for sale to help raise funds for the campaign.

The hotel believes that it takes a concerned community effort to fight against this disease. Thus, it partnered with Cathay Pacific Airways and the Estée Lauder Companies whose own campaign focused mainly on education and medical research. The Peninsula Manila’s signature pink delicacies and drinks not only satisfied each guest’s cravings but also appeared to be an effective fund-raising effort as proceeds went to donation for cancer patients.

Strawberry-rhubarb Crumble, Berry Mirliton, Pink Opera, Raspberry Pots de Crème, Red Velvet Cupcakes with Pink Frosting, Cherry Profiteroles, White Chocolate Mousse with Pink Berry Splash and Cranberry Scones were available at the Peninsula Boutique and The Lobby. Premium teas from The Lobby were best enjoyed by guests with canapés, Cranberry Scones, Raspberry Panna Cotta, Strawberry Mousse with Vanilla Shortbread and other pink tempting treats. Lastly, Salon de Ning allowed its customers to consume a glass of its signature Rosé Champagne for 1,350 pesos (5,500 pesos per bottle) for a good cause. Cocktail drinks such as Pink Martini, Pink Mimosa, Pink Sangria, and Pink Bellini could be bought for PHP 600 per glass to also help with the donation. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women and the most prevalent in the world today. One in four female cancer patients suffers from this disease and 1% of all breast cancer cases are male patients.

“In South-East Asia the Philippines has the highest incidence of breast cancer,” said The Peninsula Manila general manager, Ms. Sonja Vodusek. “For 37 years since opening on September 14, 1976, our hotel has worked with various organizations to help make a difference in the lives of people and to be a pillar of hope in society. As a woman, a sister, and a daughter, I believe very strongly in the fight against this terrible disease.” “We are delighted to partner with the Estée Lauder Companies because we believe in their anti-breast cancer campaign message of ‘Let’s beat breast cancer. We’re stronger together.’” Vodusek expressed the hotel’s happiness in working once more with the Philippine Foundation for Breast Care, Inc. to help raise funds and awareness of this dreaded disease that has claimed the lives of thousands. “This is our call to action for Filipinos all over to come face to face with this life-threatening condition and proactively and concretely deepen their involvement in this noble cause that will save the lives of countless daughters, sisters, mothers, and wives.”
