It's no secret that chefs love to cook and serve guests unforgettable meals paired with memorable experiences. So if they were given the chance to cook for and impress anyone, dead or alive, who would they choose? Here's what our dear chef friends had to say:

JP Anglo

JP Anglo is the proud owner and head chef of the well-loved Sarsa. The rockstar celebrity chef was also hailed as this year's T.Dining's Local Champion 2020 for his unwavering support to Filipino cuisine.

If you could cook for anyone, dead or alive, who would you like to prepare a meal for and why?

"It would be Anthony Bourdain again. I would love to cook for him, sit down, hear his thoughts, and have a beer with him. I would love to cook him my 3-way sisig (smoked, grilled, and fried with brainy aioli) and our batchoy. He’s a no-frills kind of guy that likes honest to goodness food; no pretentions, no reservations. I’d also like to cook for my late angkong (paternal grandfather). Growing up, I learned how to eat good food because of him and he never got to see who I’ve become today. I’d like to think I got a lot of my good traits from him. And if I could, I’d love to cook him some of his favourite Chinoy dishes like machang, lomi and patatim. He would have been so proud because I think he never would have imagined that I would end up in a kitchen."

Bruce Ricketts

Chef Bruce Ricketts is the talented chef who birthed top-notch restaurants: Mecha Uma, La Chinesca, and Sensei Sushi.

If you could cook for anyone, dead or alive, who would you like to prepare a meal for and why?

"If I could have a full month’s reservation in my restaurant to feed all the older chefs I look up to, that would simultaneously excite and terrify me out of my mind. I would love to cook for different chefs from different eras and have them criticise my dishes. I could imagine them thinking why everything tastes so different because produce and ingredients aren't treated the way they used to be... or that maybe I just didn’t do justice to a technique that most probably came from them. Either way, their input and the learning experience would be priceless."

Miguel Vecin

When one is craving for Spanish food, Bar Pinxtos is always top of mind. This is thanks to chef-co-owner Miguel Vecin's mouthwatering and savoury offerings.

If you could cook for anyone, dead or alive, who would you like to prepare a meal for and why?

"I known this has probably been said a lot but I’d love to cook for my two grandmothers. They were both excellent cooks. During my younger years it was unfortunate I did not really enjoy cooking yet, but I enjoyed eating what they cooked. Sometimes I still remember the food they used to cook and try to recreate them. It will never be the same though. Times were different and simpler then."

Tom Bascon

Chef Tom Bascon heads the kitchen of one of the best restaurants in the country, M Dining. There, he makes the most appetising continental dishes with a beautiful twist.

If you could cook for anyone, dead or alive, who would you like to prepare a meal for and why?

"Since I’m a big Lakers fan, I was able to fulfil my dream of cooking for my idol, Magic Johnson, back when I was still with Nobu. I prepared almost every dish he ate that night. That was truly a 'magical' night for me. I also always dreamt of cooking a really nice meal for my father, Dodong. Ever since I took over the helm of M Dining in 2016, I patiently waited for his visit. He had an amazing palate and loved to eat. And he was not afraid to let me know if he liked a dish or not. I was looking forward to that honesty. It is quite unfortunate that I won’t be given that opportunity, as he passed on due to natural causes three months ago. What I would do to get that chance again."

Carlo Huerta

Helming the kitchen of Shangri-la at the Fort's Peruvian restaurant, Samba, is Chef Carlo Huerta Echegaray. Chef Carlo brings with him authentic Peruvian recipes and delicious concoctions of different spices and flavours sourced from South America.

If you could cook for anyone, dead or alive, who would you like to prepare a meal for and why?

"Heston Blumenthal, because he is one of the chefs that I admire the most. I would make him a ceviche de mariscos en crema de rocoto, to show that to make a humble dish like that, one needs expertise to balance flavour, freshness, and spiciness."

Nicco Santos

Chef Nicco Santos helped bring Your Local, and Hey Handsome, to life and is currently with Elephant Grounds Manila and is also busy conceptualising the sumptuous dishes of the homestyle Asian food cloud-restaurant, Sambar.

If you could cook for anyone, dead or alive, who would you like to prepare a meal for and why?

"I would give anything to be able to cook for my late grandmother. I practically grew up with her and regret not spending more time cooking for her. In these uncertain times, all I want is to see her again. I also want to cook for Park Seo Joon of Itaewon Class haha! His character in the show was truly inspiring. Fighting!"

Alan Marchetti

Having been born and raised in Italy, chef Alan Marchetti delights guests of Solaire Resort And Casino's Italian Steakhouse, Finestra, with the authentic Italian dishes and heavenly meats.

If you could cook for anyone, dead or alive, who would you like to prepare a meal for and why?

"I guess Pavarotti. I love his voice. He was a great singer but an even greater food lover. He had romantic vision towards food and always had a good time around the table with his friends. I would have to make a trade: an amazing meal for a few of his songs. I would like to sit with him and just discuss food and the culinary world. I think I’d be really amused."

Allen Buhay

Allen Buhay is the executive chef and partner of the über popular Wildflour Group.

If you could cook for anyone, dead or alive, who would you like to prepare a meal for and why?

"Antony Bourdain and Barack Obama. They’re just overall cool people that you’d want to have a beer with and obviously have good taste in food. It would be an absolute honour just to be in their presence."
