Solaire Resort & Casino and the German Club’s 3-day 80th Oktoberfest festivities unveiled a jaw-dropping venue, mouth-watering Bavarian feast, and free flowing German beers, together with non-stop entertainment and exciting raffle prizes

The integrated resort’s The Gallery was transformed and can be likened to a wormhole that will transport you to another time and space with just one step. The venue’s look and feel were vividly mimicked to match true German Oktoberfest fashion. And just like in Germany, once on your designated seats, you can immediately go and order what will serve as your dinner and beer grub.

The program was presided by Michael Scheile of The German Club, Solaire’s partner for the 80th Oktoberfest, and was joined by Eiffelene Salvador as co-emcee to introduce the bringer of lively tunes. “The Bavarian Sound Express” delivered a fun and upbeat prologue that slightly revealed what was about to ensue in the next three days of merriment.

It may be a source of curiosity but Solaire and The German Club’s partnership doesn’t come as a surprise. The Filipino-owned integrated resort embodies the best of the Philippines while The German Club’s longstanding history provides Manila a sense of the world through its European upbringing. Tobias Rast, President of the German Club; Bastian Breuer, Vice President for Food and Beverage of Solaire; and Mr. Felix Grasser of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Manila welcomed their guests with words that expressed the deeper relationship not just between the two institutions, but on a much wider scale, the Philippines and Germany, and why this is a rather special occasion than the ones held years prior.

“O’zapft is!” or in English “Tapping of the Barrel” officially starts the celebrations with the opening night’s Guest of Honor Enzo Razon, son of Solaire’s pioneering force, Enrique K. Razon, Jr. tapping the beer barrel. The opening ceremonies were immediately followed by the night’s special performer, Martin Nievera, who sang “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”, “Let It Be” and “Save The Last Dance”, perfect for enjoying the unlimited servings of authentic German food. The second and third days’ honored attendees were Paranaque Congressman Gus Tambunting and Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Philippines, Dr. Gordon Kricke.

The menu is divided into appetizers, sausages and main course, and desserts. The appetizer list is composed of a bread basket of oven-fresh German breads and pretzels, three different kinds of salad: a German potato salad, Munich-style sausage salad, Cabbage salad; and a platter of German cold cuts and various cheeses. The sausages and main courses include Spaetzle Pan, a homemade noodle dish with cream, mountain cheese and crispy onion; and an assortment of sausages in pots like the weisswurst, and platters of grilled coarse pork sausage, veal sausage, Swabia red bratwurst, Kaesekrainer, crispy pork knuckle, pork schnitzel and meat loaf. The dessert takes on the classic strudel and Kaiserschmarrn, which is shredded pancake with rum raisin, berry compote and vanilla sauce. The alcohol is prevalent throughout the massive tent. The mains are Weihenstephan beers in lager and wheat plus a menu you can order from which has spirits, wines, and energy drink as a mixer. For those who are non-meat eaters or have dietary restrictions, vegetarian options are made available upon requests.

Just like the staple items on the menu, Oktoberfest would not be complete without the ultimate tester of chugging power. A beer drinking contest for the gents and ladies saw the fearless take on each other head-to-head to see who can gulp the quickest. To spice things up, generous sponsors raffled off eye-widening prizes to lucky event-goers which made them keep their grins on and maybe drank a little bit more.
