The convention aims to showcase how games and immersive learning can be used to tackle real-world issues
Educational consultancy Press Start Academy, alongside global NGO Games for Change and the University of Hong Kong (HKU), are working together to host the first-ever Games for Change APAC-Hong Kong convention.
Taking place at HKU on June 10, 2023, the free-to-attend convention aims to showcase how games can be used to address real-world issues and provide a setting for professionals to engage with each other on this subject. The event will feature keynote speakers, panel discussions, workshops, networking sessions and a marketplace exhibition of creators’ works.

Explaining his passion to see Games for Change make its mark in Hong Kong for the first time, Press Start Academy’s founder and CEO Vincent Siu says, “One of the reasons why we wanted to be quite active in participating is that there are a lot of stories that we can tell about the game design scene here, but also the social impact scene here is really exciting and meaningful.”
This summer marks the 20th anniversary of Games for Change, and Siu is excited for Press Start Academy to ramp up the territory’s work with the NGO for its events. Last year, Press Start Academy was invited to kick off the APAC conference with a virtual opening statement. For Siu, this year’s APAC satellite event marks a proof of concept for bigger things, including greater collaboration with Games for Change on its year-round educator programmes.
