Eight members of the Gen.T Tribe, the panel of industry heavyweights who helped nominate and select honourees on the Gen.T List 2023, on signs of a good leader and the change they want to see from the next generation
Running a profitable startup or launching a groundbreaking product are good indicators of a company’s success, but much of it also has to do with effective leadership.
A good leader today isn’t seen as just someone who is able to deliver results (though some board members and investors may argue otherwise). Ask around and some of the most desirable types of leaders are creative, empathetic, strong at communicating, good at listening and open to opinions different from their own.

Here, we ask eight members of the 2023 Gen.T Tribe, the panel who advised us on who should make it on the Gen.T List, for what they think differentiates great leadership and the impact they hope from next-gen leaders. From company chairs to venture capitalists and sustainability leads, they weigh in with their thoughts.
Andrew Tseng
What do you think makes a leader different or great?
Andrew Tseng (AT): Leaders should know how to identify and employ people, inspire their colleagues to find their maximum potential and develop the confidence to have goals. Leaders should also have a vision and innovative thinking, and keep positive thoughts at all times. This way, they can lead their teams to be at the forefront of a trend, use innovative ideas to solve problems and inspire their team to learn, grow and make breakthroughs even in the face of difficult times.
What change do you hope the next generation of leaders brings?
AT: The next generation of leaders will face more changes and challenges, but they will also have many new technologies and methods available. So I hope that they can lead Taiwan's biotech industry to the international level and give people worldwide a happy future that is full of hope.
What is your top advice for young leaders?
AT: Maintain a sharp and innovative mindset, and the courage to face challenges and execute [your vision].
