Ken Samudio is a biologist by profession, specialising in marine biodiversity, but his career took a turn when he decided to dive into fashion (and without any formal training at that!). A socially conscious artist, Ken employs disadvantaged women to produce his designs; these embrace natural and organic forms (thus paying homage to the sea) using recycled material. Vogue Italia included Ken in Vogue Talents for Accessories in 2014. American Vogue and British Fashion Council chose Ken, twice, to join IFS and London Fashion Week. Ken was part of Pitti Immagine, for Super Talents 2014 and was a finalist for San Pellegrino Young Chef/Designer Competition 2015. He also launched his collection at the 2015 Vogue Talents Corner at Piazza Morando, where only 12 were showcased. Thailand’s Ministry of Commerce awarded him best ASEAN textile and fashion designer in the field of craftsmanship and innovation. Ken just signed a contract with Moda Operandi and will soon be in Bergdorf Goodman, New York.
What inspires him: Nature, the sea and the natural abundance of the Philippine islands.
