The work of Prestige Global Designs, this terrace house in Singapore provides ample room for all the little things that make for a happy family life
Building an ideal home is about weaving together the paradoxes of work and home,” declares Jeremy Tay, director of Prestige Global Designs. For a family of six for whom telecommuting has become part of the norm, their home is a place for work and play, and a space where they can create fond memories of time spent together.
The clients live in a 4,500 sq ft terrace house in northern Singapore, in close proximity to a park connector. The owners needed two home offices—a study for their four children and a conducive workspace shared by the husband and wife. When the couple came across the homegrown firm’s work in an issue of Tatler Homes Singapore, they were won over by their creativity and promptly enlisted the studio for the renovation of their abode.
While the existing interior was in good shape, there was room for improvement. The kitchen, as well as the wardrobe and bathroom in the master suite, were dimly lit spaces that needed to be redesigned. The family wanted a brighter and more spacious-looking interior that incorporated cabinetry to store the family’s memorabilia and cherished objects.

Prestige Global Designs replaced all of the existing flooring and windows as part of the interior makeover. A neutral scheme was also selected to enhance the sense of space in the home. “We hope to transport the clients to a haven of calm whenever they return home after a hectic day outdoors or at work,” says Tay.
With the intention of creating an interior that conveys “contemporary luxury, comfort and timelessness”, the firm selected some of the finest materials available, which include parquet wood flooring and marble feature walls. Metal finishes in warm hues were selected to impart a sense of luxury and add a contemporary touch. “We are seeing more interiors embracing warm metal finishes such as bronze, copper, brass, gold and rose gold. These finishes are luxurious and modern, and breathe life into neutral schemes,” comments Tay.
The impressive foyer sets the tone for the home with its use of dark wood and glass. Adds Tay: “As the adage goes, first impressions count. The entryway is the key to setting the scene and defining a home. It is where the clients welcome their guests, so it provides a glimpse into their personality and lifestyle. This is also the place for goodbye kisses and welcome-back hugs—a place of family rituals.”
