A low-carb diet, as its name suggests, consists of food that are low in carbohydrates. Deciding to partake in one means cutting down on meals that are heavy on rice, pasta, and bread while increasing intake of food that are high in protein and fat. Many find this to be a drastic change in one’s eating habits, and have led them to believe many of its alleged downsides. While most of these beliefs aren't true, it's still best to consult one's doctor before trying it out for yourself.

1. Low-carb diets ban eating fruits

Despite being known for a wealth of health benefits, fruits tend to be rich in carbs because of the sugars they contain. Low-carb diets don’t discourage one from eating fruits (and some vegetables), but instead to have them in moderation.

2. Low-carb diets can cause heart problems

With a diet that suggests eating food that’s rich in fat, it’s easy to see why one could associate it with heart disease. Studies have proven though, that a low-carb diet can lower blood pressure and cholesterol. Healthy fat can also be found in avocados, fish, nuts, and eggs.

Those who lead active lifestyles often load up on carbs to store energy. While decreasing one’s carb intake can affect one’s performance, it doesn’t completely prevent them from functioning at their best. Fat also provides more energy for physical activities that are low in intensity.
