5 Ways To Organise Your Home For A Decluttered 2018
As much as we are looking for ways to get rid of those extra few pounds we gained from the holiday season, a new year also means we should look into throwing away the things that we no longer need.
Not only will a decluttered space boost productivity, it's also a simple way to get rid of distractions and clear your mind. Here are some tips to get you started for a decluttered 2018:
1/5 Take your time
It will take time to clear all of your junk as it probably includes at least a year's worth of miscellaneous purchases, unwanted gifts, concert tickets, receipts and one-off party costumes. Give yourself time to go through the things that are stashed away in your home, and don’t be scared to throw them away.
The rule is: if you have not used a certain thing for some time (let's say six months) and it has no sentimental value, it is highly unlikely that you will use it again. Tidy one corner at a time to make the task less stressful.
2/5 Minimise, minimise, minimise
If you are a gadget freak, you will probably have far too many charging cables and adapters for your own good. The good news is, there are now plenty of companies who produce charging docks that can charge multiple different gadgets at once. You will never have to worry about not having enough power outlets or get frustrated about finding the right cable to charge a certain gadget, ever again.
3/5 Get creative
If you are a nostalgic person and don’t want to throw away your concert tickets, try getting a sticker maker to turn them into stickers. If stickers are not your thing, get an album to collect all your tickets or create an artwork out of them. It’s all about getting creative with your own junk.
4/5 Tidy up your digital space
With taking photos and videos on digital cameras and smart phones becoming the norm, we often don't think twice before we hit the shutter-release button on our devices. As a result, our computers and hard drives are always crammed with photos and videos we don’t even remember. Take some time to go through your hard drives and just click “delete”, your mind will thank you later.
5/5 Top it off with a deep clean
If you have already got your hands dirty in decluttering your personal space, you might as well just give your home a deep clean as it will be much easier since you have already finished minimising the stuff that you have. After all, it is not a good idea to start the new year off with a greasy microwave, smelly fridge and a dusty work desk.
