Since  its opening in 2014, Marco Polo Ortigas Manila has come a long way. In just three years, it has been recognised by two international award-giving bodies, a testament to its top-notch service and facilities.

Five Stars

PTT_06012017-251.jpgMarco Polo Ortigas Manila received the most coveted five-star rating at 2017 Global Star Ratings, making it the first time for a Manila hotel to attain such praise from the prestigious Forbes Travel Guide for the first time in six decades. Forbes Travel Guide has been the Olympics of the world’s most luxurious hotels, restaurants, and spas since 1958. Getting recognised by it says a lot about the kind of service that a property provides. A five-star rating means “outstanding, iconic properties with virtually flawless service and amazing facilities.” Hotels from around the world have been rated based on a propriety algorithm that evaluates service at 75 per cent and quality of the facilities at 25 per cent. Given this stringent standard, only the best properties around the world get the acknowledgment.

This great news was met with appreciation by Frank Reichenbach, the general manager of Marco Polo Ortigas Manila. “To be one of the two hotels in Manila that received the five-star rating is a great pride for the hotel, the Marco Polo Hotels group, and the hospitality industry in Manila and the  Philippines. This definitely raises the bar on how we provide luxury services to our clients,” Reichenbach says. “We will continue to live and exceed guest expectations in terms of service and facilities,” he pledged.

Excellent Lead

This achievement, merely three years into the Manila hotel scene, won’t be possible without a brilliant leader. Reichenbach had come to and from the Philippines several times in the 1980s until he found home at Marco Polo Ortigas Manila. As the general manager since 2015, Reichenbach has been very hands-on with the staff, talks personally with the guests, and has undoubtedly led the hotel into excellence. Because of this, he was distinguished as the General Manager of the Year for ASEAN at the Hotelier Awards in 2016.

Sharing his delight for bagging the recognition, Reichenbach says “It doesn’t get any better than this! I have worked in most countries in Asia and now I am back in the Philippines. I think this recognition is something that is really special.” He adds, “I would like to thank my team. During my panel interview, I was asked, what makes a great hotel? It’s the person; it’s the interaction; it’s the  wow factor; I think that’s my belief and I continue to live for that.”

Hotelier Awards honours the dedicated professionals of the hotel industry. Originally, it only selects hoteliers from Greater China, but on its third edition, the award-giving body opened the competition for the ASEAN which added 10 more countries into the mix. This makes Reichenbach the first General Manager of the Year from this region.
