Insituto Cervantes hosts a literary event that’s one for the books.

In celebration of International Book Day, or Día del Libro, Insituto Cervantes de Manila is holding “The Writing of Don Quijote”, which will attempt to rewrite Miguel de Cervantes’ immortal novel, Don Quixote de la Mancha by hand.

The Spanish cultural centre is in search of 500 volunteers who are willing to take part in the endeavor of hand-writing Cervantes’ novel. Starting at 4 PM and concluding at 11 PM, each volunteer will have two minutes to write a few sentences of the novel by hand. After the event, the final hand-written book will be displayed in the Library Miguel Hernández of Insituto Cervantes.

Subsequently, Instituto Cervantes is also holding La Noche de los Libros, or the Night of Books, which aims to provide an entire evening of leisure and activities, including a Spanish gastronomic feast, games, music, poetry, and free Spanish classes.

Admission to all Día del Libro activities is free on a first come, first served basis.
