It’s time for Recess. Get to know this zero-pressure activewear line founded by Anne Curtis, Isabelle Daza, Paulina Ortega and Roxanne Farillas, designed to fit women's needs.
These four friends have a personal connection, love and need for comfortable, functional yet stylish activewear. When they couldn’t find exactly what they needed or wanted, they thought - hang on… why don’t we make our own collection?
Belle and Anne (two of Tatler's Gen. T honourees) are savvy entrepreneurs and are very hands-on with marketing, Paulina tells me. She is the creative director of the Recess, driving all design, creative and brand image and communication aspects. Roxanne on the other hand is a seasoned authority in the fashion retail field, overseeing all of Recess’ production, merchandising and operations.
Purpose & Philosophy
“This collection is by women and designed for women. All four of us for example have different styles and preferences but that is part of what made Recess amazing. We were able to somehow incorporate our differences into creating one common thing. We worked to together to create a line that can find a home in any woman’s wardrobe” shares Anne.
Recess’ goal is to create activewear that ladies can wear during different activities in a day, or through the fluctuations of their body at different stages of life. In fact, Anne and Belle were experiencing their pregnancy bodies when developing Recess, so creating maternity products was extremely important for them too, and solidified their belief in producing garments for a variety of bodies, and for women of a variety of sizes.
Paulina adds that they named the brand Recess simply because they wanted to remind everyone to be more mindful in their everyday lives, and to take a break once in a while. “We live in a hyper-driven society. We had to remind ourselves to take a moment to ourselves and to take a step back. Recess can be whatever the word recess means to you: a breather from life. When you are super stressed – take a break. Perhaps, make fitness your recess! Why not move and meditate?” Pauline explains.
