Ateneo blueREP closes their 27th season with a re-staging of the award winning musical Spring Awakening

The Ateneo’s premier musical theatre organisation is all about pushing boundaries for their 27th season. For its finale, blueREP proudly presents their rendition of the Tony-award winning musical, Spring Awakening.

Tatler Asia

The story is set in 19th century Germany where a young boy and girl find solace in each other as they navigate their way through adolescence and discover their budding sexualities with no one to guide them, not even their parents. Originally written as a German play by Frank Wedekind and adapted into a musical by Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik, this bold coming-of-age narrative explores not only the joys and wonders of youth, but its heartbreaks and tragedies as well.

blueRep’s re-staging of the musical aims to question the continued repressed relationships between children and adults. Missy Maramara co-directs this staging with Darrell Uy, with music directed by Ejay Yatco. The cast is a mix of  blueREP’s homegrown talents and some established names in the industry.

The show is rated R-13 as it tackles issues on sex, abortion, abuse, and suicide.
