24 October marked the official launch of Awit at Laro, a campaign that celebrates songs and games of the Filipino youth and invites them to go outside and play. Tukod Foundation’s Bambi Mañosa is joined by UNICEF national ambassador Gary Valenciano in contributing to the preservation of Philippine culture by reintroducing traditional games to a new generation of youth through the music and the arts.

Over a hundred artists have contributed to this cause. The likes of Lea Salonga, Ryan Cayabyab, and Joey Ayala have collaborated with musicians to produce 20 songs that speak of the cause. Each song’s lyrics give value to children and family life and are printed on a songbook with accompanying artworks that depict each song.

A unique code will allow the bearer of the songbook to download the music at their leisure. An art sale also accompanied the launch, featuring pieces by renowned artists such as Ramon Orlina and Michael Cacnio. Their pieces use doors as a canvas, as a metaphor to go outside and play. These contribute to the project’s goal to raise funds for UNICEF as well as the Tukod Foundation and Shining Light Foundation.
