The brand new Chiron Noire costs one-sixth the price of the La Voiture Noire

The $12.5 million La Voiture Noire, which was inspired by Jean Bugatti's legendary 57SC Atlantic just got a little bit more affordable.

If you’ve always wanted your own Bugatti La Voiture Noire, you may be in luck. On Monday, Bugatti unveiled the brand new Chiron Noire, a much more affordable, but potentially more elusive version of the US$18.7 million La Voiture Noire.

Here’s the catch: the latest edition will be limited to a production run of just 20 vehicles and will cost about US$3.3 million, or about one-sixth the price of the record-setting original.

Like La Voiture Noire, the Chiron Noire is inspired by a special black version of the Type 57 SC Atlantic, created by Jean Bugatti during the 1930s. According to a press release from the marque, only of which four were built between 1936 and 1938—the black car disappeared at the beginning of the Second World War.

In March 2019, Bugatti Design Director Achim Anscheidt reinterpreted the iconic vehicle; keeping the true form of the car while bringing this special automobile forward to the 21st century.

While it may be a touch more restrained than the original, the Chiron Noire will tout blacked out exteriors and interiors, a Bugatti badge made of solid silver and black enamel, and a carbon badge in the centre armrest to show off its exclusivity.

The engine itself is much the same as the original, featuring a quad-turbocharged 8.0 litre W-16 as the standard model, with a 1,500 horsepower and 1,180 pound-feet of torque capability, which push the car from 0 to 62 mph in 2.4 seconds.

Delivery of the vehicle is expected during the second quarter of 2020.
