Collectors Share Fond Tales of BenCab
With a career spanning over five amazing decades wherein he has received accolades both here and abroad, it isn’t surprising that National Artist for the Visual Arts Benedicto Cabrera, affectionately known by the public as BenCab, is spoken of with great respect by both the artistic community and the public at large.
As their way of expressing their appreciation for BenCab, some of the Philippines’ leading art aficionados – a select group made up of artists, authors, and several media personalities – have shared their personal recollections of the artist in My BenCab: Collectors Tell Their Stories, a new book from Anvil Publishing.
Launched last 12 November at the Writers’ Bar of the Raffles Makati, the book celebrates BenCab’s art and life through memories shared by Julius and Christine Babao, Iza Calzado, Patricia Coseteng, Joven Cuanang, Josine Elizalde, Ken Hakuta, Susan Snyder, Rico and Melannie Hizon, Patrick de Koenigswarter, Jaime Laya, Xavier and Mert Loinaz, Manolo and Maritess Lopez, Ambeth Ocampo, Paulino and Hetty Que, Val and Maurice del Rosario, Claude Tayag, Ofelia Gelvezon-Tequi, Isabel Caro-Wilson, and Wilson Yuloque. Edited by Thelma Sioson-San Juan, My BenCab also features full-colour photos of some of the artist’s most iconic masterpieces – a fitting tribute to a master of imagery.
My BenCab: Collectors Tell Their Stories is available at selected National Book Store and Powerbooks branches. For more information, visit www.anvilpublishing.com.
