This Independence Day, join in on the #DamaKoLahiKo movement, which celebrates Filipino culture through the five senses

Every culture is inherently sensual—after all, there is no better way to experience a group of people than through the five senses.

This Independence Day, a group of proud kababayans is mobilising to show off the very best of Filipino culture through paningin (sight), pandinig (sound), panlasa (taste), pansalat (feel), and pang-amoy (smell). This burgeoning social media movement, called Dama Ko Lahi Ko, is set to launch in its first year this 2021. Organisers are calling on all of us to share which part of being Filipino resonates with us most, whether it's the awe-inspiring vistas of our 7,000 plus islands, the relaxing tunes of a kulintang, the mouth-watering flavours of sisig or sapin-sapin, the unique textures of our indigenous weaves, or even just the friendly smells of our local panaderya. This 12 June 2021, celebrate our collective identity with your own personal experience and post what you love most about being Filipino on your social media with the hashtag #DamaKoLahiKo.

The Dama Ko Lahi Ko movement is composed of an ever-growing community of businesses, organisations, and individuals. Representatives from Mullenlowe, Served Manila, Filip+Inna, and more have all come together to showcase Filipino pride like never before.  The best part is, it's all a collaborative effort, which means that you can join in at any time.

Aside from posting on social media, you can also download Dama Ko Lahi Ko assets—from fonts to patterns—and create your own with it. An online calendar on their website also informs visitors of exciting upcoming events open for all. 6cyclemind lead guitarist, Herbert Hernandez has even curated a handful of OPM playlists you can enjoy as a way to share his passion for the sense of pandinig. Listen to Tiktilaok, Anong Lunch Natin?, or Friday Na Pala! now on Spotify.

Though the Dama Ko Lahi Ko movement is in its infancy, the group's organisers are excited to grow and expand this campaign into more fruitful ventures in the future.
