The zero emission concept is capable of generating up to 500kW when sailing at 15 knots.

London-based design studio Philippe Briand has just unveiled an innovative superyacht concept that is set to be powered entirely by wind.

The 200-foot ship, called the SY200, will be entirely self-sufficient in terms of energy; offering zero-emission luxury. The vessel will be able to harness equivalent power of 2,000kW in its sails in good wind conditions, and is set to become the leader in the ‘green’ superyachts.

The eco-conscious vessel is made possible thanks to the power of the wind, but also thanks to underwater turbines which will capture kinetic energy as the yacht sails through the sea. The combined energy will be stored in a 20-tonne battery that will allow the SY200 to be powered silently.

The exterior of the vessel touts a modern, dynamic design that includes a sloop sailing rig and contemporary hull, and expansive skylight, which reaches 80 percent of the yacht’s length.

The interior can be completely customised to meet an owner’s personal needs and style, but the initial layout includes four guest cabins alongside a massive owner’s suite, complete with his and hers bathrooms, a fully functional office and a private terrace with a jacuzzi. The lower deck can accommodate up to 12 crew members.

“I believe we need to embrace ‘lateral thinking’ when it comes to the future of sailing yacht design,” Philippe Briand said in a release. “We want to work alongside owners to create the perfect renewable energy machine, using only wind, water and solar energy to run the yacht and provide an exceptional experience of peace on board and exploration of the sea.”

The zero emission superyacht is the second self-sufficient concept from Philippe Briand.
