Create your holiday playlist with a good mix of new and classic songs to get into the Christmas spirit!

December is coming up and there are just too many renditions, old compositions, and instrumentals of Christmas music that have started to pop up on our feed. But there are only a few songs that can really make us tap our shoe or sing along — the kind that isn't overplayed. So here's a good mix of old and new Christmas songs that will absolutely get you in the mood, one song after the other.

Find out if some of your favourite holiday songs are included in the list:

1. It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas by Michael Bublé

On this special time of the year, Michael Bublé emerges from his home to announce the beginning of Christmas through houses, malls, and everywhere you go with his sonorous crooning accompanied by an orchestra that makes us all feel the magic of the season. The song pretty much sums up the prelude to a vibrant end-of-the-year celebration that we all are excited for.

2. Sleigh Ride by The Ronettes

You can already imagine the mall glistening with Christmas lights and ornaments. Each store is full of people, with a line that extends all the way to the front entrance. Each and every eager shopper is brushing through other people as they stroll along. And Sleigh Ride by The Ronettes is blasting through the mall stereo, overlapping laughter and chatter altogether. It's enough to get us excited to tick off our favourites from our wish lists!

3. Holidays by Meghan Trainor featuring Earth, Wind & Fire

It's a celebration — and Meghan Trainor brought Earth, Wind & Fire with her to proclaim the holidays with this new upbeat track. Put on your colourful trainers and dance along to this song on Christmas eve with your loved ones. You can even sing along with Meghan and Earth, Wind & Fire's catchy melody and lyrics.

4. Jingle Bells by Lauren Daigle

Lauren Daigle's raspy and soulful voice is perfect for this jazz rendition of Jingle Bells. The playful arrangement transforms a familiar tune into something new without changing the fun and upbeat tempo that keeps everyone sway and bob their heads.

5. Have A Holly Jolly Christmas by Burl Ives

An old Christmas song like the late Burl Ive's Have A Holly Jolly Christmas often hits different. It's the feeling we get when reminiscing about simpler times that remind us of merry days from our childhood; eagerly opening gifts after having a large feast with the whole family.

6. Santa's Coming To Town by Sia

Sia's Santa's Coming To Town music video takes inspiration from old sitcoms, from ensemble dance breaks to extravagant decorations. Like most, if not all, of her music videos, Sia does not appear in the video but Kristen Bell is seen lip-syncing the whole song. Both the song and the video will surely get you up on your feet!

7. Santa Claus Is Coming To Town by Michael Bublé and Ariana Grande

Michael Bublé and Ariana Grande sharing a duet is one of those rare special moments brought about by the holidays. Both versatile artists coming together to sing a Christmas song sounded better than expected with Michael's smooth scat singing and Ariana Grande's impeccable runs. And did I mention that they sound great harmonising together?

8. Have Yourself A Merry Christmas by Frank Sinatra

Jazz and Christmas just come together so well. Which is why Frank Sinatra's Have Yourself A Merry Christmas makes us think of all the good things that can happen this season of giving, forgetting everything else that had happened these past few months. Emotional and magical, Have Yourself A Merry Christmas is a promise that brings hope and joy to each and everyone who hears it.

9. All I Want For Christmas by Mariah Carey

High notes and smooth runs are not the only things that make this song so special and a favourite. It's also Mariah Carey and the irresistible need to sing along to this catchy tune. The song's new edition is made even more festive with a new music video, showing a little girl in awe of everything Christmas around her. This girl will soon be us once every single ornament is put up and we're browsing through various options at the Christmas market.

10. My Favourite Things by Tony Bennett

Originally heard from The Sound of Music by Richard Rodgers, My Favourite Things gets a jazzy rendition by Tony Bennett and does it so well that it can get us immediately in the holiday mood. Brilliantly, the lyrics are changed from everyday to memorable things we appreciate during Christmas. Suddenly, all of these things that Tony sings about ultimately remind us of our favourite stuff from the yuletide season.

11. Christmas In Our Hearts by Jose Mari Chan and Liza Chan

Did you really think I'd end this list without Jose Mari Chan and Liza Chan's classic Christmas In Our Hearts? No way — Jose Mari Chan and Christmas are two words that are almost inseparable. Christmas In Our Hearts is a favourite among other classic songs played during the Holidays, so make sure you include this one in your playlist.
