When it comes to non-English language shows, we usually think of Korean dramas which are enjoying a massive increase in popularity and availability on Netflix.

While K-dramas continue to dominate, Japanese shows are also gaining momentum and Bollywood is still garnering interest. But an often overlooked series out of Asia are French dramas. Thanks to the success of Lupinthe most-watched French series on Netflix—French dramas may be undergoing a resurgence soon.

1. Lupin

If you haven't seen Lupin yet, now's the time to pick it up. The show is a great first watch as you venture more into other French series. Lupin, inspired by Arsène Lupin the "Gentleman Burglar", a character created by Maurice Leblanc follows Assane Diop (Omar Sy), also unofficially known as the master of disguise.

He's out to avenge his father who's been accused of theft by the wealthy family he worked for. If you love Sherlock, heist, disguises and cleverly avoiding the police, Lupin is for you.

2. Call My Agent

We can't talk about French shows without talking about Call My Agent. This critically acclaimed show revolves around a fictional French talent agency and the agents of three actors who try to live their own lives while struggling to cater to their clients. Expect real French celebrities to be featured on the show.

Think of it as a slice-of-life drama/comedy show that involves tantrums, treachery, secret flings and what else happen behind the scenes when you work with stars.

3. Family Business

This Netflix original follows 35-year-old entrepreneur Joseph (Jonathan Cohen) who's always full of ideas though they seem to never work out...until he thinks that he finally has the idea he's been waiting for.

As France is about to legalise marijuana, according to Joseph's "reliable source", he turns his family's butcher shop into a weed dispensary. It's a whole lot of funny family dynamics that unfold from there.

4. The Break

While The Break is actually a Belgian drama, the dialogue is delivered in French and because we love a good crime show, we're adding it here.

This gripping series follows police detective Yoann Peeters (Yoann Blanc) who's trying to move on from a painful loss by returning to his hometown. It would've been a break for the detective but he soon finds himself caught up in a murder investigation filled with dark secrets.

5. A Very Secret Service

In need of a good laugh? Watch A Very Secret Service. This satirical workplace drama might remind you of James Bond in some way but just add a few extra scoops of pure comedy.

Set in the early 1960s, the French Secret Service has just recruited a young and dashing trainee, André Merlaux (Hugo Becker) under the watchful eye of elite agents. Watch as Hugo's makes his way to his 007 dreams.

6. Can You Hear Me?

Can You Hear Me? is a French-Canadian series about three friends that come from a low-income neighbourhood in Montreal.

We follow the trio as they navigate their life which includes bad boyfriends, dysfunctional families and maybe a little friendship drama along the way. Expect squad goals chemistry from the three leads: Mélissa Bédard, Ève Landry, and Florence Longpré.

7. Osmosis

If you love Black Mirror then Osmosis feels like an episode of that hit sci-fi show. Osmosis is set in Paris in the near future where a dating app called Osmosis that conveniently matches people with their soul mates.

But there's a caveat—the app needs to mine your brain for data showing you that true love comes at a price.

8. The Chalet

Those looking for a thrill should put The Chalet on their watch list. This exciting French show takes place in the summer of 2017 in the village of Valmoline in the French Alps. Alternating between two timelines: 2007 follows a family as they move in the village for a new start and 2017, when a group of friends meet there for a wedding.

What seems like happy occasions turn out to be a chilling mystery as people start disappearing one by one. The village is isolated and guessing what could happen next will send a chill down your spine.

9. The Chef's Table: France

We all love food and eating so it's only right to include The Chef's Table: France and delved into French cuisine. Here, you can discover the delicious flavours that France has to offer as chef try to push the boundaries of culinary tradition.
