Here's a round up of events you must not miss this month.

Vienna Boys Choir

Around 500 years ago, the Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I mandated the formation of a court music band. This humble choir grew, and from under its wings, musical geniuses such as composer Franz Schubert and conductor Hans Richter sprang forth. The band of court musicians was then disbanded but eventually revived. It is known to this day as the Vienna Boys Choir.

With about 100 choristers aged 10 to 14 years old, the choir produces exceptional boy sopranos and altos with high vocal standards and a solid musical background. The choir travels for 300 concerts each year, impressing 500,000 audiences worldwide. This year, they are touring Asia; Manila is to be their final stop, marking a return to Philippine shores after 12 years.

The 22-member Bruckner sub-group of the choir—named after organist Anton Bruckner (1824-1896)—will enchant Filipino audiences with their awe-inspiring repertoire of compositions by Antonio Vivaldi, Luigi Cherubini, and Giuseppi Verdi, among others. Viewers will also have someone to look forward to as 12-year-old Lance Castro So, the sole Filipino member of the choir, joins the tour to perform in front of his countrymen.

Don’t miss their Manila stint on November 11 at the PICC Plenary Hall.
