Repertory Philippines' "Hair" | November 17

Maronne, George, Cara, Caisa.jpgWhen Hair debuted on Broadway in 1968 in the midst of the Vietnam War, it was praised for depicting controversial themes at the time, such as the anti-war movement and the sexual revolution. It also broke new ground for establishing the genre of rock musical and having a racially diverse cast, not to mention a nude ensemble scene. Set in the tumultuous ’60s, Hair tells the story of the pacifist Oklahoma farm boy Claude, who meets a tribe of energetic and freespirited hippies, led by the charming Berger. They inspire Claude to rebel against the war enlistment, defy his parents and society, and to truly advocate love, peace, and freedom. The show boasts a Grammy and a Tony to its name.

With book and lyrics by Gerome Ragni and James Rado, music by Galt McDermot, and choreography by PJ Rebullida, relive the rocking spirit of the ’60s as a stellar cast of performers bring the show to the country. Markki Stroem alternately stars with Topper Fabregas as Claude, George Schulze as Berger, and Caisa Borromeo as Sheila, with Chris Millado as director and Ejay Yatco as musical director. Hair runs from 17 November to 17 December at the OnstageTheatre in Greenbelt 1, Makati City. For tickets, call Repertory Philippines at 843 3570 or visit ticketworld.com.ph
