Discover the thriving vinyl culture through one of its connoisseurs, Satchmi, and how their Motorino is revolutionising the vinyl experience

If there is one language that unites the world, it’s music. It doesn’t matter if you are a fan of the Beatles, Dave Matthews Band or STYX. Music brings together people of all generations, cultures and religions. It bridges the gap between geographies and beliefs that, throughout history, it has been an instrument of positive change and unity. Nowadays, with the birth and proliferation of Youtube and Spotify, people get to share their playlists and has made experiencing music beyond borders as easy as clicking a button on our mobile devices. However, despite the rampant advances in technology to revolutionise music and experiencing music, one medium survives the times – vinyl!  Casette tapes and mini discs have died, but vinyl lives on as a primary medium to experience music.

Satchmi, with its exponential reach in the audiophile community, has revolutionised the vinyl culture in the Philippines. They have become the go-to place for buying vinyl and the portable turntable, Motorino. To shed some light on Motorino and the vinyl culture in the country, PhilippineTatler.com picked the brain of the people behind Satchmi:

Philippine Tatler: In the age of digitally enhanced mp3's, Spotify and Youtube, do you still find buying vinyl relevant? If yes, why?

Satchmi: Vinyl has become more and more relevant each year as proven by the rising sales of records not only in the Philippines, but around the world as well. People are starting to realize that buying a physical product from their favorite artist is the best way to express their support, and something as genuine as vinyl is something you can keep for years to come. Compared to CDs and other forms of music, vinyl has always been the best format not only for its honest, warm, analog sound, but because it's the best way to hear the music how the artist intended it to be. When taken care of, vinyl can outlast CDs years later.

PT: What is the vision/ objective of having a Motorino? Is it a status symbol or a mark of a true music lover?

SA: We created the Motorino to spark the interest of the younger generation into collective vinyl records. We've always highlighted the Motorino as the best entry-level, portable and most affordable turntable out there. It carries more than just a status or mark of a true music lover, it's our way into making vinyl accessible to everyone.

PT: What functions/ features of Motorino do you think highlights that vision/ objective?

SA: The main features we like to highlight in the Motorino is its portability - 8 hour battery life, built to be carried around to different locations, and loud enough for a day outside or in a lounge room. We also highlight the Motorino's specs like it's magnetic needle, which most high end turntables use today. We want people to be able to experience vinyl the best way possible in the most affordable way.

PT: Who is your typical/ ideal Motorino client/ buyer? What is his/ her personality and interests?

SA: The Motorino is for people who want to get into vinyl but don't want to spend to much on a heavy set up. It's for people who want to just plug and play records in their own home, or bring it around with them on trips and staycations. A personality of someone who is outgoing and personal, someone who enjoys music in its purest form and wants something more than just music playing on their iPod.
