Mercedes-Benz is kicking off 2017 on a high note, as the company has finally attained the title of No. 1 luxury carmaker in the world and it is also looking forward to the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Mercedes-AMG. In the Philippines, Mercedes-Benz has launched a new entry-level model, the A180 Urban, which is its most affordable offering to date.

In a move to attract the younger segment of the luxury car market, the new A180 is priced at 1.79 million pesos. Don’t be fooled by its compact package as it houses a plethora of exquisite attributes that Mercedes-Benz is known for.

Inside the hood is an in-line four 1.6 litre gasoline engine and a seven-speed 7G-DCT dual clutch transmission which produces 122 hp and 200 Nm. Its drag co-efficient of 0.27 and standard stop-start system contribute to its fuel-saving capacity, which rates at 5.8L/100km. In short, the A180 facilitates a refined and smooth driving experience, with seamless gear changes and neutral handling.

The interior of the A180 Urban combines function, style, and comfort. All windows are one-touch up and down and the controls are laid out sensibly. Quick-to-operate buttons accessorise the dashboard, which also includes an infotainment system. Meanwhile, the seats are strategically set but still leave enough leg and foot room. The fold-down centre armrest, and slightly elevated seat base at the back add a thoughtful touch to the design.

Standard safety features include seven airbags and a radar collision prevention system with adaptive brake assist. Active parking assist, parking sensors, and iPod and Bluetooth connectivity are among the other standard features of the A180 Urban.
