1. Cut out junk food

Did you know that a regular serving of french fries can cost you up to 340 calories? To burn this, you'll have to jog at a quick pace for no less than 30 minutes straight. So if you're looking to loose a bit of poundage as you greet the new year, you might want to cut out your fastfood and junkfood intake. Or if you want to take it slow, you can start by eliminating side orders -- save yourself from the unecessary transfats!

2. Spruce up your water

In case you're the type who skimps on water-intake, this tip might encourage you to guzzle down your much needed daily dose of H20. A simple starter would be adding a few slices of lemon into your glass -- a quick infusion of vitamin c and antioxidants! If you're feeling a bit adventurous, you can try the following variations: Cucumber Mint, Citrus Blueberry, Watermelon Basil, or Grapefruit Raspberry. Any of these water infusions have their own benefits and they sure are yummy!

3. Start a new kind of workout

If you're new to working out, make sure to research before you subscribe to any gym memberships! Get to know what kind of exercise fits your body, lifestyle, and of course, schedule. Start out slow with something with low-impact and gradually increase your routine so that you don't suffer undue and unwelcome fatigue. If you're already on a fitness regime, you might want to take the new year as a good chance to challenge yourself. A frequent boxer or biker? Try something with a slower pace like yoga or pilates to practice variety in your routine. This way, you don't only challenge yourself, you're staying away from that dreaded fitness plateau!

4. Swap out an indulgent part of your diet with a healthier alternative

New year, new you? One of the most common resolutions is going on a diet and starting to eat healthier -- a feat as challenging as ever! With all the decadent foodie finds you encouter nowadays, it indeed can be quite difficult to stay away from indulgent meals. Going cold turkey from your favourite food might be a bit of a crash-diet-type of situation, which will surely backfire on you in the long run. With diets, its best to go slowly to get long-lasting effects. A good tip could be swapping out your rather indulgent meals with healthier alternatives. For example, if you're a fan of steamed rice every meal, you can try out a serving of cousous instead? For those who enjoy chicken, swap your drumstick with a breast-cut -- much leaner and packed with protein! Don't cut out, but swap!

5. Limit your fructose intake

It's always best to stay away from high-sugar food, but if you're looking for something to cut out from your diet, sodas and chocolate bars are the first to go! Always high in calories and high in fructose, these sugary-snacks don't only add to the poundage, they can transform and settle as fat when not metabolised right away. So if you're looking to shed the pounds, say no to soda, cookies, and cakes!

6. Find a fitness buddy

It can be a bit dragging to go to the gym alone. Sometimes, no matter how consistent we are with our routines, we suffer some lazy days when we would opt to stay in, snuggle up in the couch, wine in hand and Netflix all-set. This is why you need a fitness buddy -- find a friend who can serve as your conscience and one who will drag you out of bed and encourage you to workout. This friendship works both ways, so sometimes you'll have to be the voice of reason from time to time!

7. Spend more time outdoors

If you're based in the city, stunning landscapes of nature can be elusive. Workouts can be confined in gym spaces and studios, which we all have to admit, can get boring from time to time. As we greet 2018, it might do all of us a bit of good to get some fresh air and sunshine, away from the hustle-bustle of the metro. Perhaps a trekking trip with your friends can perk up your routinary lifestyle. Try some outdoor sports like surfing, horseback riding, or wall-climbing! Unleash your inner adrenaline junkie this year!
