2. The Bridgerton Series by Julia Quinn

If you've watched the Shondaland series for Netflix titled Bridgerton, and you are curious about the original novel from where it was adapted from, grab a copy of Julia Quinn's The Bridgerton series. Comprised of eight novels set between 1813 and 1827, each book highlights one of the eight children of late Viscount Bridgerton: Anthony, Benedict, Colin, Daphne, Eloise, Francesca, Gregory and Hyacinth. The first book in the series, The Duke and I, has been on the New York Times bestsellers list for ten weeks now. Think Gossip Girl (thanks to the mysterious Lady Whistledown) set in the competitive world of Regency-era London.

3. The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot

This series by the prolific American author Meg Cabot revolves around Amelia 'Mia' Thermopolis, a teenage New Yorker who discovers that she is the princess of Genovia, a small European principality between France and Italy ruled by Mia's father, Prince Philippe Renaldo, and by Mia's grandmother, Queen Clarisse Renaldi. The books are noted for containing many popular culture references, which include singers, movies and fads in modern culture. The storylines are very light and entertaining with some emotional punches on the side. In 2001 and 2004 respectively, two films based on the novels were produced by Walt Disney Pictures: The Princess Diaries and The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement starring Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews.
