Behind the recent Transformers spin-off, Bumblebee (2019), is a storied car that is a loveable as the character it inspired

It’s no secret that the Transformers movie franchise has gained quite a following, especially among folks who grew up watching the title’s cartoon series back in the 1980s. While many love Optimus Prime, the real star of the show is arguably, Bumblebee.

Yes, the youthful vibe of this Autobot has made him a hit. While he may be quite carefree at times, he is one serious team player when the need arises. And for this, he gets a thumb-up.

Those who grew up with the cartoon will fondly recall a Volkswagen Beetle transforming into the Autobot known as Bumblebee. Beginning in 2009, however, the film’s top brass decided to put a twist on things and “transform” Bumblebee into one of the film’s mainstay product placers—Chevrolet. More specifically, a Chevrolet Camaro. There were a couple of Camaros in that installment of the movie. The first was a classic 1955 Chevrolet SS. Then there was the upcoming fifth-generation model that appeared as a concept later on in the movie.

As the movie franchise progressed, so did the Camaro. The latest installment now sees a sixth-generation Camaro playing the iconic character. And this, to our minds, is the best one for the road.

Why?

Just like the character it portrays, the newest Camaro is hip and modern. Yet it still retains an old-school vibe that’s irresistible to many. With most new cars having similar jellybean shapes, it’s quite refreshing to see something different like the Camaro.

Moreover, the new Camaro, GM says, is lighter. This means it promises a better drive and can make full use of its four, V6, or V8 motors’ power. Handling, too, has been greatly improved. This simply means you get a more satisfying time behind the tiller. Some have even said that it is more comparable now to the likes of the BMW 4-Series rather than the Ford Mustang.

And who can resist such a proposition? You not only get the car’s movie star looks but it’s driving character as well. How’s that for street cred?
