The house remains open for these theatre companies by making their acclaimed plays and musicals available for watching on Youtube, some for a limited time-period only

1. WILLIAM

Philippine Educational Theatre Association's touring production of its Shakespeare rap musical (originally staged in 2011) premieres on 26 April at 7PM. This is in part with the global commemoration of the 404th death anniversary of revered English playwright and thespian William Shakespeare.

2. BATANG MUJAHIDEEN

Tanghalang Pilipino's Batang Mujahideen written by Malou Jacob and directed by Guelan Varela-Luarca follows the story of Fatima, a young girl raised in a Muslim Yakan community in Mindanao. The story is set against the backdrop of the historic kidnapping of Claret School Tumahubong teachers, students, and priest-director in 2000. Availability of the video on Youtube expires on 1 May.

3. HINTAYAN NG LANGIT

Written by Juan Miguel Severo and directed by Raffy Tejada, Hintayan ng Langit was first staged in the Virgin Labfest XI in 2015 and was later adapted into a feature-length film by Dan Villegas in 2018. It tells the story of former lovers who meet in purgatory where they share a room together as they wait for their crossing over. The play premieres on Youtube on 28 April at 3PM and will be available for seven days.

4. RAMA HARI

Ballet Philippines' iconic pop ballet musicale Rama Hari world premiered in 1980 and was re-staged in 2012. It is an historical coming together of three (now five) National Artists in one production: Alice Reyes (Dance), Ryan Cayabyab (Music), Bienvenido Lumbera (Literature), Salvador Bernal (Theatre Design), and Rolando Tinio (Theatre and Literature). It is a retelling of the ancient Sanskrit epic Ramayana that shows Rama's tale of love and courage as he pursues his quest to rescue his wife Sita from the evil Ravana. The filmed gala show premieres on 2 May at 3PM and will be available for seven days.

5. BAGONG CRISTO

Prolific Filipino playwright-revolutionary Aurelio Tolentino wrote the play Bagong Cristo in 1907. It is a retelling of Christ's passion, death, and resurrection that examines the issues of class struggle and social inequality during the pre-Commonwealth era. The play was re-staged by Dulaang UP in its 42nd theatre season under the direction of Alexander Cortez. 

6. THE KUNDIMAN PARTY

Floy Quintos' The Kundiman Party was first staged during the 26th season, gaining critical acclaim and wide appreciation. Catch the filmed footage of its 2018 revival, directed by Dexter Santos, on Youtube and join in Maestra Adela and her students' political conversations.

7. FATHERS & SONS

National Artist for Literature Nick Joaquin's English play is a story of patriarchy and toxic masculinity which gives viewers a glimpse into the plight of the oppressed. Translated into Filipino by National Artist for Literature, Virgilio Almario, and acclaimed poet and journalist, Jose F. Lacaba, the play was re-staged in alternating languages in 2017 by Dulaang UP in its 42nd theatre season.

8. ANG NAWAWALANG KAPATID

Dulaang UP, in its 38th theatre season, adapted the beloved Indian epic Mahabharata into a Filipino musical by Floy Quintos. It has original music by Ceejay Javier and was directed and choreographed by Dexter Martinez Santos.

9. Twelfth Night

Shakespeare's comedy of mistaken identity and unrequited love was filmed live on stage by the United Kingdom's National Theatre in 2017 and features Tamsin Greig as Malvolia. Captivate yourselves by this production directed by Simon Godwin and send in a donation for the benefit of the National Theatre (UK's most prestigious theatre company and educational institution for the arts). This is streaming until April 30. 

10. FRANKENSTEIN

Watch Danny Boyle's stage adaptation of the classic novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley with Benedict Cumberbatch onstage as the creature on 30 April until 7 May. This 2011 production by the National Theatre showcases Cumberbatch and Johnny Miller swapping in the roles of Dr. Victor Frankenstein and the creature. Watch the alternate show here.
