What will their second pop-up gallery showcase?

Photography. “Photography is our main focus. We wanted to showcase other works in Barado, our first exhibit, in order to learn more about the exhibition process, and more importantly to present the relationship between photography and other mediums. But now I think we are a little bit more settled and felt confident that we could do an all out photography show. I think all people are fans of photography -- how BIG a fan they are, is something we hope to help them realise. Hopefully they are huge fans!” – Enzo Razon, Creative Director of Tarzeer Pictures

Swoon will contain the works of eight perceptive Filipino photographers all of whom have embraced the show’s overarching theme: intimacy. The exhibit will delve into the relationship, the trust, and understanding that is eventually established between photographer and subject. Swoon will touch on the various moments of that unique relationship and journey : from those initial feelings of vulnerability dusted with fear, to the total openness and surrender of a subject.

“The ‘taking’ of an image charges a moment with a heightened sense of intimacy, each artist presents a series of new works that captures the unique ways photography can create, deepen, and reveal our most intimate connections.” – Tarzeer Pictures.

Read on to hear what Tarzeer Pictures’ Creative Director, Enzo Razon shares about their upcoming show:

Why is this show titled, Swoon?

On one hand ‘Swoon’ is simply a more focused title, than just calling the show ‘Intimacy’. We wanted to make it more specific, and more about a feeling. Show titles should be specific but also inviting and mysterious.

With the overarching theme being the relationship between photographer and subject -- is there a motif evident in each of the pieces to be featured in Swoon?

There are two main threads that run through the show. One has to do with the “feeling” or sensation of intimacy itself. I think the majority of the show is like this. There are examples that are narratives while other are more impressionistic. The other is intimacy, that existing relationship and closeness, whether it be familial or between friends, lovers etc. that is being observed and captured in the real world.

How did Tarzeer Pictures conceptualize the theme/motif of this exhibition?

Its just came naturally. Intimacy is so intrinsic to photography itself. It was inevitable that one of our shows was going to address it in a substantial way.

Why did Tarzeer Pictures want to focus on the relationship between artists and subject?

All works of art have something to do with this relationship. Photography especially, since it is so immediate, and has the potential for widespread visibility and mass reproduction thus making it a unique medium to explore intimacy with.
