"This photo really represents the Epperson family in so many ways. It is a family tradition every year that we do a creative family portrait both for Christmas and for the New Year. Christmas for our family means being together, being creative and silly. We love doing fun and unconventional family portraits because it encapsulates each of our personalities and also our family dynamics. Every year we pick a theme and it is up to each person to wear what they feel works best for the concept. This year has not changed that much for us with regards to Christmas, if anything this pandemic has brought us even closer together."

"This image shows what Christmas is for me. With family in Manila and in Madrid, this time of year is usually the season of travel. There is something about the reflected lights, the rain and a slight hint of chaos during the festive season that strikes me. Good chaos mind you, that rush of seeing family and friends can be a bit dizzying, I must admit. For most of my professional career, travel and movement have been at the core of what I do and who I am as a photographer. This COVID-19 year has been quite a change of pace, professionally and personally. It has helped me re- define what it means to travel. Now, my trips consist of bike rides to Rizal, or maybe a coffee run to Makati. You don’t have to go far to have an adventure, and that has always been the real secret of being a “traveller”. No deep insights from me though, just grateful and looking forward to be close to family and friends this holiday season, lights, rain, chaos and all."

"This is our first Christmas in a pandemic ---if not, everyone's first. It is also our family's first time spending moments together with not just Christmas decors and lights hanging at home, but a horde of face shields and protective masks, too. In a time where everything in front of us seems discouraging, there is a light of positivity that transpires behind it. One of which is spending valuable time together as a family. The bonding and the priceless quality minutes that will be spent together is what I am looking forward to this Christmas season. It is going to be unusual from what we are accustomed to, but it may also be a once in a lifetime experience that we will definitely speak about in the coming years.  It may be a different tone and probably a darker setting than the traditional, but we will be sure to make it a joyful and meaningful one."

"This image is a collection of our family Zoom chats from the past few months combined with our family portraits for the past few years. As abstract as this image is, to see a visual representation of our previous interactions and celebrations is a comforting sight. It's been difficult to define the passage of time during this pandemic. Our relationships with our loved ones have been blurred by distance. This year's Christmas will require more planning than usual. We are spread out all over Metro Manila, so we will most likely be sending each other little gifts and home-cooked meals during the holidays. This is an honest image; I can't quite visualise what Christmas might really be like, so this feels more appropriate for me."

"Every January, we mark our wall calendar with fifty birthdays - one for each of us in our large extended family. As we continue to self-isolate, we’ve celebrated each birthday with greetings and photos instead of our usual gatherings and cake. I looked at our calendar recently to check the dozens of birthdays that had passed, and the coming Christmas season we will most likely be spending apart. The holidays for us have always meant being together in that glorious, chaotic week between Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve. This year will be quieter, but instead of disappointment, I feel anticipation for the next time we all see each other again."

"Even with the challenges presented by the lockdown, I focused on deepening relationships: outwards by producing vlogs on my YouTube channel, and inwards by strengthening my bond with my 1-year-old son, Mako. My days revolved around these blissful worlds for the last seven months. This Christmas, I see both merging as most of the festivities will be virtual. We’ll take advantage of what I have setup so that Mako, my wife, and I will be able to connect with our family and friends, near and far.  It’s a hopeful attempt for intimacy for sure, but that doesn’t mean that the celebration—and the smiles—won't be real."

"For many people, holidays are about travelling to new places and exploring new things away from the city. We often see our homes as transition spaces, somewhere we return to after a day’s work, but look to travel for excitement. This year with the pandemic and travel restrictions in place, Christmas 2020 is about home, family and gratitude for the little things."
