Prague is a city that is steeped in history, and as such it an endlessly intriguing and picturesque destination. The image of intimidating spires of 17th century churches towering over the (beer-buzzed) streets of the city perfectly encapsulates the balance of the old and the new.

In this edition, allow us to show you the splendid Baroque wonders of the Czech Republic’s capital city. There is no mistaking it—the distinct flourishes of Baroque architecture can be seen on massive religious structures, palaces, chateaus, restaurants, and even open spaces like parks. Here are some:


Old Town Square

Soak in nine centuries worth of history as you take stroll down the Old Town Square. Visit the Old Town Hall, Church of Our Lady before Týn, Baroque Church of St. Nicholas, the Rococo Kinský Palace, the Gothic House at the Stone Bell and the monument to Jan Hus.


The Klementinum Baroque Library

Get lost in the fascinating halls of the Baroque Library, with its extremely detailed frescoes and historic globe displays.


Charles Bridge

Traverse this historical bridge, built of sandstone blocks and flanked by fortified towers, that dates back to 1357 under the reign of Charles IV.

Step inside Prague's most magnificent Baroque Church of St. Nicholas (not to be confused with the one in Old Town Square) in the heart of the Lesser Town Square.
