1. An underwater expedition to see the Titanic
We all know the story of the RMS Titanic’s ill-fated maiden voyage, but few have had the opportunity to see the wreckage for themselves, which lies about 600 kilometres south-southeast off the coast of Newfoundland, at a depth of about 3,800 metres.
For the opportunity to view this piece of history, OceanGate has built the Titan, a five-person submersible designed to dive to depths of 4,000 metres—it’s amongst the first privately-owned submersibles in the world that is capable of taking five crew members to such depths. The first manned expedition to Titanic since 2005 will happen from June 2019, and it is accepting citizen applicants to be part of the mission. Is there a more memorable gift than a deep sea expedition to such a significant site?
