The Most Iconic B&B Italia Pieces—Innovative Design Like No Other
Since its inception in 1966, the Como-based Italian brand of B&B Italia has been a frontrunner in design. They pioneered an innovative industrial approach, contributed to the history of Italian design, and have reflected contemporary culture through their unique process and approach. Today, they carry strong relationships with world-renowned designers who have become key assets in the advancement of the company. Together through their collaborations, B&B Italia has launched some of the most iconic pieces of furniture we know today.
Serie Up 2000 by Gaetano Pesce
Gaetano Pesce's Serie Up 2000 has earned its familial moniker as "the Mama Chair". Known as an elegant symbol of the female figure, and infused with modernity, the Serie Up 2000 was designed as a metaphor for a large, comfortable womb. Though many see it as a figurative image of a woman with a ball and chain on her foot, B&B Italia had adopted a different perspective on it for its 50th anniversary. Now, it stands for the lasting connection between mother and child.
Husk by Patricia Urquiola
Designer Patricia Urquiolo said it best when she said: “Those who look at a sofa must visually perceive a sense of both mental and physical comfort.” Not one to stray away from her own philosophy, Urquiolo has designed the Husk armchair with Hirek, which contains a soft cushion divided into strategic proportions to ensure maximum restfulness. The Husk armchair comes with or without an ottoman footrest, as per the client's choice.
Moon System by Zaha Hadid
Its namesake celestial body is as unique and dynamic as the sofa itself. Designed by Zaha Hadid, the Moon System is a unique piece crafted with dynamic curves, angles, and overall fluidity. Hadid refers to the Moon System as her own attempt at "liquefying" the conventional sofa farm. It appears as if made from a single element, yet its distinctive silhouette proves to be a striking and powerful reminder that furniture can not just be artistic, but sculptural as well.

Tobi-Ishi by Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby
The Tobi-Ishi, designed by Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, is named after the ornamental stones commonly found in traditional Japanese gardens. Much like the stones themselves, these pieces embody a sense of beauty, simplicity, and tranquillity. While the piece itself looks straightforward, much thought has been put into its design. The overhang of the table, for example, accompanied by the vertical trapezoidal bases set at right angles give the table a geometric illusion depending on the point of observation.
