Luxury travel can sometimes be inauspicious towards the environment. Nowadays, there’s more awareness with the impact of travel choices to the environment. This has fuelled the shift among numerous brands towards sustainable tourism. Luxury and sustainability is an arduous mix, however, there are brands that do not compromise the former to deliver the latter.
The Bellevue Resort in Bohol is among those dedicated to uphold its commitment to sustainable luxury tourism, as it continuously launches new and green initiatives parallel to its promise to provide utmost pampering. After the success of its largest international coastal clean-up initiative in Bohol last 2018, the ASEAN Green Hotel award recipient recently held a “Plogging” event in support of the worldwide campaign, Earth Hour. According to DENR 7 – Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Head, Mr. Charlie Fabre, the event was actually the first held in the entire region.
With the participation of 310 dedicated Earth Heroes from various sectors and local volunteers, the plogging activity–an amalgam of picking up litter and jogging–was a success; collecting a total of 1,095 kilograms of non-biodegradable trash collected from Doljo Road to Doljo Beach. Post-plogging and waste segregation, the resort also hosted environmental awareness talks to help further educate the members of the community on green practices and its global effects.
