One of the country's leading furniture manufacturers—which was once a humble mom and pop store—is now celebrating 40 years in the business.

Legacies can be hard to come by yet it's an important part of what makes a business stand out—aside from exceptional service and quality, of course. Fortunately, Philux seems to have achieved all three.

The Kienles, who founded the company 40 years ago, are a fantastic example of this. As leaders in the field of furniture manufacturing, Philux enjoys great trust from their valued clients. Of course, to get to where they are today takes time and patience. The original founders, Swiss expatriate Max Kienle and his Filipina wife, Zelda Aragon-Kienle, nurtured the brand from their own backyard. What started out as a mom and pop endeavour consisting of only two carpenters has since grown to a dynamic and robust team of craftsmen and specialists.

Today, Max and Zelda's daughters, Stephanie and Jessica, have taken over the business. Their passion for furniture making and interior design could perhaps be attributed to a childhood containing vivid memories of sawdust, wood glue, and the buzz of mechanical machines. After returning home from school abroad, the two sisters have since learned the ropes of the business and continue to direct campaigns and growth for the brand.

As the second generation to take charge of Philux, Stephanie and Jessica have also breathed new life into the business. They've expanded designs in wood, finish, fabric, metal, and matting. The selection process for furniture pieces has also become more creative and personal. Initiatives for customer service have not been ignored as the two have established a concierge and an online shop. Most recently, they've launched Philux Spaces, which is the brand's design arm that offers interior design services.

As times continue to change, Philux has also reoriented its business values to reflect a more sustainable approach. They now offer FSC-certified wood sourced from responsibly managed forests around the world. Their plastics provider is also a known eco-friendly company, which turns plastic into eco-bricks that help build schools, homes, and infrastructure.

Their continued promise to tell a Filipino story through inspired living spaces is just part and parcel of their vision. They also aim to promote a mindful way of a life that is coupled by love for locally produced pieces and craftsmen. Just as their brand continues to enjoy prosperity from one generation to the next, so do they hope that their stylish and durable pieces can become a part of your family's legacy.
