Happening on March 17, 2019, Jaime Velasquez Park will once again cater to hundreds of artworks that celebrate the best in Philippine Contemporary Art. Are you dropping by?

Art in the Park returns to Jaime Velasquez Park in Salcedo Village, Makati, for its 13th year on March 17, 10AM to 10PM. A fundraising event, Art in the Park donates a portion of all sales to the Museum Foundation of the Philippines in support of their projects and programs for the National Museum of the Philippines and its network.

This year, 56 exhibitors representing galleries, art collectives, independent art spaces, and student groups, will once again showcase a wide range of artworks that will surely appeal to a broad array of tastes and styles.

Prices of artworks are capped at P50,000 with many art lovers scoring coveted pieces for even far less. Last year, an Art in the Park visitor unknowingly bought an unsigned BenCab painting at the fair from CANVAS. Another lucky buyer also brought home an unsigned Manny Garibay work from the fair. Their stories eventually went viral on social media. Also a mainstay of Art in the Park through the years are the special exhibits that feature works of artists handpicked by the organisers. The featured artists for this year are Zean Cabangis, Yeo Kaa, Leeroy New, and Oscar Mejia.

A first for Art in the Park, the fair will feature an installation focused on fragrances. With the Enigma of Scent, Oscar Mejia aims to invoke personal experiences among fairgoers through the mysterious sense of smell. The exhibition will also talk about the history of the Philippines' perfume industry.

Meanwhile, Palawan-born young artist Yeo Kaa will reprise her inflatable piece Alone But Not Lonely from her recent exhibition in Singapore. Yeo Kaa will also have tile work available at the MFPI booth. It can be recalled that her candy-colored tiles immediately sold out at the recently concluded Art Fair Philippines.

The art of painter and avid photographer Zean Cabangis graces the fair’s postcards. A merging of his two passions, The Space in Which We Stand consists of a photo transfer of one of his photographs that he then painted over. Works by Cabangis will also be available at the MFPI booth. Visitors of Art in the Park should also watch out for a special piece by Leeroy New.

Enhancing the relaxed atmosphere of the fair, the trio of Soulful Mood will be playing mellow jazz tunes throughout the day. In the evening’s special performance, the Bleu Rascals, Philippine representative to the 28th International Blues Challenge in the United States will energize the crowds with their spirited take on the blues.

Fairgoers looking to take an easy, nourishing break in between the hunt for art treasures can pop into any of the food tents offering a selection of sweet and savory (even vegan) fare, with a spotlight on dishes by chef Justin Golangco, the genius behind the famous fried chicken of Poblacion’s Bucky’s and The Alley’s SideChick.
