1898, Los últimos de Filipinas

Come October, a celebration of Spanish and Latin-American cinema will unfold in the 16th Película-Pelikula: Spanish Film Festival. This edition, which will run from October 5 to 15, will feature more than 20 titles, ranging from romantic comedies, animation, thrillers, dramas, to documentaries.

This year, the local festival will host two Spanish directors whose films are part of the selection. On October 6, 4:30 PM, Sally Gutiérrez will present her documentary Ta acorda ba Tu el Filipinas?, which will be having its world premiere in Manila. Later that evening at 9:30 PM, Salvador Calvo will have a Q&A session with the audience prior to the second screening of his film 1898, Los últimos de Filipinas. His film recounts the experience a group of Spanish soldiers during the Baler siege, who resisted for 337 days without knowing that the war has ended.

Psiconautas

Among the other films that will be shown are La noche en que mi madre mató a mi madre, El hombre de las mil caras, Psiconautas, Tarde para la ira, and Frágil equilibrio. The festival will also pay tribute to Latin-American cinema with the showing of films from Argentina, Mexico, and Venezuela.

On October 10 in particular, Película-Pelikula will focus on the Argentinian film industry with the showing of the documentary El auge del humano, the multi-awarded comedy El ciudadano ilustre, and the drama Kóblic.

This edition will show at Greenbelt 3 Cinema 1. In December, a selection of the films shown in this festival will travel to other cities in the Philippines, including Baguio, Iloilo, and Davao.
