A popular Shah Rukh Khan romantic-comedy is set to breathe new life as Bollywood's first Broadway musical
An arranged marriage, a summertime adventure in Europe, and of course, a sprinkle of family drama. All these and more make up the perfect recipe for an unforgettable romantic comedy—one of India's most popular, to be exact.
For those who are unfamiliar with the Bollywood cult classic, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge ("The Braveheart Will Get The Bride"), it is a 1995 hit first released by Indian film studio, Yash Raj Films. Two decades later, it is set to be remade into a Broadway musical (the first Bollywood movie to have such a privilege) by some of the industry's most talented luminaries.

The original film is headlined by one of India's biggest actors, Shah Rukh Khan. He stars alongside Kajol, who plays an Indian-born Londoner whose father arranges for her to be married to a family friend. Convincing her father to let her have one last adventure, Simran (Kajol's character) meets and eventually falls in love with Raj (Shah Rukh Khan), another Indian-born Londoner. The plot and production of this film have so enthralled the country of India that one Mumbai cinema has continued to feature the film for 26 years.
It is a cult classic and one that will remain to be so, when on October 23, 2021, Yash Raj Films announced that it would be remade into Come Fall In Love—The Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge Musical. It will feature a star-studded crew that include veteran Indian composers Vishal Dadlani and Shekhar Ravjiani, Legally Blonde and Mean Girls lyricist Nell Benjamin, Frozen choreographer Rob Ashford, and Hamilton music supervisor, Bill Sherman.
